EVERYDAY SAFETY WORKSHOPS for groups of all kinds
These workshops focus on the “everyday safety” skills of boundary setting, awareness, personal safety, bullying, peer pressure, harassment, advocacy, and more.
KIDPOWER Parent-Child Workshops
These entertaining workshops give parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn along with their children. Trained presenters introduce the Everyday Safety skills of being and acting aware, taking charge, setting boundaries, and getting help in a variety of situations.
Each step of the way, the adults are coached in how to practice these skills with their children. This upbeat, active session empowers families with information and activities that will open the door to ongoing discussions between parents and kids.
Parent/Adult Education
Dr. Amy Tiemann presents her customized adult education workshops that incorporate KIDPOWER's core principles.
Adult education is a key component of a child safety strategy. As parents we make many important decisions that affect our family's safety long before our children are old enough to be brought into the process. As kids get older and more independent, new issues arise at every stage of development. Adult education is designed to help parents and other caregivers create a safe environment that gives children the freedom to develop life experience within adult-designed limits, safeguards, and boundaries that protect them from potential abuse.
Safe principles are discussed on an individual, family and organizational level that can be applied to schools, scout troops, and other youth groups. Dr. Tiemann outlines the factors that define a safe or unsafe situation, addresses adult decisions such as choosing a caregiver or school, and discusses how to identify and overcome socialization factors that may make our children vulnerable to exploitation.
Dr. Tiemann introduces the KIDPOWER approach of discussing and practicing safety skills with young people. Topics include awareness and boundary setting with strangers, people we know and trust, bullies, and peers.
An internet-safety segment can be included on request.
When parents and other concerned adults become educated about child self defense, they can effectively share and reinforce skills with children as needed. All our strategies are designed to increase a family's capability and confidence, and decrease anxiety.
